News and Info on the Kustom/Classic Bicycle Scene and Casual Cycling in the Wichita area
Last night it was 101 degrees at 7:00pm when we met up at the Anchor for the Red, White and New... Belgium Pub Pedal. It appeared no one was riding anytime soon so we sat around enjoying all the different New Belgium Brewery beers that were on tap while waiting for someone to announce the start of the New Belgium ride. Either the ride never happened or we were just too impatient and left before it did. The usual Thursday Night Pub Peddlers took off for the Fountains, the Keeper and then we split with some going to Mort's and others to Club Billiards. Despite the heat and no New Belgium ride it was a great evening.
A good turnout for Itty Biity Bike Night as Meg called it. A lot of 20 inch wheeled bikes and smaller in a variety of styles including muscle bikes, ballooners, kustoms and folders. I don't recall seeing any BMX though.
After hanging at the Shamrock for a while we rode down to Club Billiards where Ralph treated us to a history lesson on the bar and Wichita's seedier side. From there we headed into Old Town stopping at the Farmers Market and the fountains. I believe the Brickyard followed these stops. I think Donna deserves some kind of award for riding the bike with the shortest crank arms for the longest distance.
Dangerous Dan does a better job of describing the evening than I could so I'm just going to quote him from RatRodBikes.com
It was a beautiful night with a great turn out of bikes, both tandem and otherwise. Its so cool to see all the tandems and out of the 20 tandems I counted I don't think there were any two that were the same bike. I counted 6 steer from the rear tandems, a few of them were factory built , a couple of home built from days long past and a very recent nicely built almost Colson look-a-like sfr. It was a fun time, we stopped at three drinking establishments and a upscale womens store that one of the gals that rides with us had recently opened, the last bar was an open air bar where it was bike night we rode our bikes into the bar and parked right along side the Harleys and other motorcycles, the loud bike people thought the bicycles were pretty cool.
The upscale Women's store is Lady Grace. Thanks Jodie for opening your doors for us.
This Thursday (12th) there is a group of people coming down from Salina to ride Wichita's famous Pub Pedal.
Let's make it worth their while and have a good turn-out and a great time.
Meet up at Larry's at 6:00pm or join the group at the Fish Market or Shamrock Lounge.
See you there!

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had any photos from before the turn of the century of any Wichita bicycle clubs and i
n particular of any bicycle repair shops. Our house (which is now the Delano Bed and Breakfast) was built by Morris Scho
llenberger who was one of three brothers who owned the Schollenberger & Co. bicycle repair shop located at 230 N Main in
Wichita. The brothers closed the [...]
