New 1st street bike lane. It begins at the canal bike path (under 135) and follows 1st street East ending as of now just a couple blocks West of Oliver. The signage is up all the way to Oliver.
According to an older post here this bike lane and one like it on 2nd street would be a trial and may not be permanent.

As seen in the photo, drivers either don't know how or don't care to share the road with the new bike lanes. It's a fundamental rule of driving. Don't cross a solid white or yellow line.

This will be an approx. 5 mile leisurely cruise on bike lanes, paths and streets through Wichita's South Central neighborhood with stops to tour some of the area's historic buildings. Hot dogs at Tom Sawyer after the ride.

I'm guessing this was from the late 1980s. It was put out by the Wichita Bicycle Committee. This particular map came from Riverside Sports Inc. 1908 W 13th in Wichita.

A project to see whether bicycle lanes would work on Wichita streets is focusing on First and Second streets.

City Council members expressed interest at an August workshop in painting bike lanes on streets to encourage bicycling for transportation and recreation.

First and Second streets are the primary areas of study because they offer a variety of conditions that would allow the city to see how bike lanes would work, said Joe Pajor, assistant director of public works.

In addition to it's new intersection at Broadway, Mt Vernon street is also getting dedicated bike lanes in each direction from Broadway to the river. The West end of this stretch will give easier access to the Arkansas River path and the East end Tom Sawyer Bicycle Shop.
